As of 16 September 2010, Mr. Ryuichiro Yamazaki assumed office as the ninth APO Secretary-General. He was unanimously elected as the APO Secretary-General at the 52nd session of the APO Governing Body in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 2010.

Mr. Yamazaki is from Japan, received a B.A. (Economics) from Hitotsubashi University, Japan, and a B.A. (Foreign Service Training Program) from Williams College, USA and he has more than 40 years of working experience for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
